Coralville – It is unfortunate that so many with mental illness feel they have to suffer quietly, alone, for fear of being stigmatized. This Friday, brave souls who are coping with mental illness will present This is My Brave, for a 2nd annual show in the Iowa City area this Friday, May 13, at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
You can read about one of the performers here.
“The mission of This Is My Brave, Inc. is to end the stigma surrounding mental illness by sharing personal stories of individuals overcoming mental health disorders through poetry, essay and original music, live on stage.
Join us for our second year in Iowa City on May 13th as we present touching essays, original music, and heartfelt poetry performed by a dozen individuals living with―or loving someone with―a mental illness. The power of the human connection through the telling of personal experiences will grab hold of the audience for the show’s ninety minutes and beyond.
Proceeds from this event will allow This Is My Brave to continue producing life-changing and life-saving storytelling events across the United States and beyond.” (“This Is My Brave” press release, 2016.)
The show begins at 7pm. Tickets are $20-$25 and can be purchased through the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts’ website.
