Cedar Rapids – Revival Theatre is back this weekend with a classic musical – Funny Girl, music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Isobel Lennart. This show tells the fascinating and bittersweet story of Fanny Brice (Lacie DeSouza), whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star, and her tempestuous relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein (Joe Wetrich).
The show is full of memorable songs such as Don’t Rain on My Parade and People. Many people remember the movie with Barbara Streisand, however younger theatre goers might be more familiar with Lea Michele’s powerful rendition of Don’t Rain on My Parade from the smash hit TV show Glee.
Revival gave us an exhilarating production of Pippin last year, featuring DeSouza in the role of Catherine. It will be exciting to see this talented actress in the leading role of another classic musical. Tickets are available on their website.
